No excuses from Terriers as they set about survival task
IF THERE is one thing that Huddersfield Town manager Danny Cowley simply will not tolerate, it is excuses.
It is what you would expect from someone who cut his teeth in non-league circles and despite the surreal scenario of empty stadiums and a much-changed working environment for clubs who are returning to action, you will not find him moaning.
Crucially, his players have adapted to the new normal of training and preparation has gone pretty seamlessly and without complaint as well.
Cowley, whose Terriers side – three points above the Championship relegation zone – welcome fellow strugglers Wigan on Saturday, commented: “It is unique and we have had to roll with it.
“Credit to the players, it has
not been the same. They are coming in are and not able to shower and we are not able to provide the same facilities.
“There has been many excuses for them (players). But they have not taken any of those excuses and have stayed really focused.”
Meanwhile, Cowley believes that the club are ‘in a good place’ as they seek to secure contract extensions for loanees Jonas Lossl, Trevoh Chalobah, Emile Smith Rowe, Chris Willock and Kamil Grabara.
The Terriers have held positive talks with the parent clubs of the quintet of players, whose deals currently expire at the end of June.
Earlier this month, experienced midfielder Andy King – on loan from Leicester City – signed a new deal committing him to the club for the remainder of the 2019-20 campaign.
Danny Simpson and Colin Quaner are out of contract at the end of this month and the club must also decide whether to trigger the option of 12-month extensions for Elias Kachunga, Ryan Schofield, Joel Coleman, Demeaco Duhaney and Jon Gorenc Stankovic.
