LETTER writer Brian Sheridan thinks Boris Johnson is better than Donald Trump, as our PM “talks as if he is speaking to his peers” (The Yorkshire Post, June 15).
But only if by peers you mean Old Etonians who think waffle and bluster will suffice, Mr Sheridan.

Johnson is left flailing. I am no Margaret Thatcher fan, but her reputation for a phenomenal workload included great attention to Prime Minister’s Questions – held twice a week back then.
Does anyone think bluffer Boris spends a fraction of the time ‘Maggie’ did preparing for his once-a-week only PMQs? His luck ran out there when Sir Keir Starmer replaced Jeremy Corbyn as inquisitor-in-chief.
Talk after December’s General Election was of Boris Johnson being a two-term Prime Minister.
Now it is whether he will last until Christmas – due in part to the something called “political capital” wasted defending Dominic Cummings.
Brian Sheridan says blame their electoral system – not individual Americans – for Donald Trump.
But Britain’s voting system is also capable of elevating politicians above their ability.

NOT being fully conversant with how the Government works, I was intrigued to learn that the Prime Minister did not consult with his Cabinet over merging the Department for International Development with the Foreign Office.
The fact that three former Prime Ministers of this country disagree with this merger makes me doubt the wisdom of it; but more scary is the discovery that it is in order for a Prime Minister to make such a decision without consulting the Cabinet.
The Prime Minister gets more dictatorial, and less democratic, by the day. Shame.
