Foxes chief satisfied despite failure to breach Brighton

-

LEICESTER CITY boss Brendan Rodgers insisted he was satisfied despite his team’s failure to break down Brighton in Tuesday’s goalless draw at the King Power Stadium.

The Foxes have now won only two of their last 10 games, a run of form that has dented their bid to seal a top-four finish in the Premier League.

Indeed, Rodgers’ men could have suffered a fifth defeat in that sequence had it not been for Kasper Schmeichel, who smothered Neal Maupay’s penalty on 14 minutes.

“I didn’t think we were very good in the first half. We got into some good positions, but didn’t have very good movement off the ball. Kasper made a good stop from the penalty,” Rodgers reflected.

“I thought second half we were much better.

“It felt like it was coming, but we didn’t quite make the final pass.

“A clean-sheet, fitness was good and subs tried to make an impact and we didn’t concede so we’ll take a point.

“We haven’t won the games, but we’ve showed a good mentality to not concede so much and hopefully after more training we can find the goals to get back to winning.”

The result leaves Leicester, who were strong favourites to finish third at the turn of the year, looking over their shoulders at fourth-placed Chelsea, now just four points further back, having played a game less.

Meanwhile, at the other end of the table, a point for Brighton takes them six games clear of the relegation zone.

“Four points from two games is good, especially when you consider the opposition,” said Seagulls chief Graham Potter, the former Swansea manager, whose players beat Arsenal 2-1 in their previous outing.

“We have to fight for every single point.”
