‘Light at the end of the tunnel’ as holiday park prepares to reopen

-

A HOLIDAY park has revealed that it plans to reopen as the pandemic eases.

The Wayside Holiday Park, in the heart of the North York Moors, is set to welcome visitors from July 4.

The owner, Mark Goodson, said he is looking forward to an exciting and productive year, following a record-breaking 2019.

He said: “To say I am thrilled is an understatement.

“This has been a stressful time for everyone in the UK, as Covid-19 brought the country to a standstill.

“Now, as lockdown eases, there is some light at the end of the tunnel at last.”

“This is a very significant year for us, as it’s our 45th anniversary.

“My father founded the park in 1975, so it’s a time for celebration. Much has changed, politically and culturally, in those 45 years, but our park remains enduringly popular,” said Mr Goodson.

“In fact 2019 was our best year ever, with a raft of awards, and accolades from the AA and Prof David Bellamy, together with some healthy sales.

“And, since the season ended in October, we have completed sales worth £450,000. But as the new season starts, albeit late, it’s time to look ahead.”

Wayside, which is based at the village of Wrelton, between Kirkbymoorside and Pickering, may receive a boost from the growing numbers of Britons who will decide to holiday close to home.

Mr Goodson said: “I feel that, because of Covid-19, foreign travel is out for many people for the foreseeable future.

“Thoughts will be turning to risk-free holidays in this country and I can reassure everyone that we are ensuring that Wayside is incredibly safe.

“The interests of all our residents are paramount.”

During the period of closure, Mr Goodson and the Wayside team have been working to make the park ready for its 45th anniversary year, while maintaining social distance.

Mr Goodson added yesterday: “We have been busy, planting new flower beds, creating new streams and upgrading the park’s facilities.

“We are very proud of what we can offer.”
