Responsible reporting would benefit our mental health

I AM writing in the hope that

The Yorkshire Post, which I have always found to be fair and as far as possible unbiased, will help towards this summer insanity of overt political correctness and encourage other newspapers to follow suit.

Please starve the ridiculous and constant PC mentioning of removing statues and stained glass windows.

This is ridiculous beyond belief and upsetting to so many of we ordinary people. Can we now replace PC with human kindness, decency, respect and common sense?

I know I am one of many who feel this. People are becoming ill with all the sensationalism of bad news. Their mental health is at risk not due to lockdown, but to the delight the media has in highlighting all the hooliganism that is taking place.

Enough is enough. It is becoming dangerously divisive and should now end.

The media has the power to inform – let it do so responsibly.

ANDREW Hicks (The Yorkshire Post, June 26) makes reference to my previous letter regarding the subject of slavery.

I was referring of course to the legal trade in slaves, and protected by the British Navy, carried out by very many God fearing Christian men (many Quakers involved in the chocolate trade) who used their wealth to build whole villages for workers, parks to be enjoyed by their families, and to improve their lives. That was edited out, alas. When I stated that in the enlightened 21st century that it would not happen, I was not referring to the vile illegal slave trade as practised today, in plain sight, which needs to be addressed.

I CANNOT stand the sight or sound of Donald Trump, but if I was an American I would most probably vote for him in this year’s Presidential elections. WHY? Until Covid-19 struck, the unemployment levels in the most deprived communities in America, which are mainly made up of black and Hispanic people, were the lowest that they have been for decades.

So, faced with that what choice do the Americans have, vote him or for Joe Biden, who was vice president to the most ineffectual president since Andrew Johnson. Just coming across good on television does not make you a good president or prime minister, many people can ‘talk the talk’, but not many can ‘walk the walk’.
