Town’s GP surgery is poised for £2.7m upgrade

-

WORK HAS started on a £2.7m upgrade of a GP surgery in Bedale, which aims to provide an “integrated healthcare service for the 21st century”.

The project will develop the Glebe House Surgery, on Firby Road, as a healthcare hub for the residents of Bedale and the surrounding areas.

Construction is due to take 64 weeks and includes a 500 square metre extension and the building being rearranged.

Once complete it will be home to GP services as well as midwifery, speech and language therapy and district nursing, which will transfer from Bedale Health Clinic.Dr Charles Parker, Clinical Chair for NHS North Yorkshire Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG), said: “This is an exciting development for the NHS in North Yorkshire.

“This investment will enable us to provide modern, extended facilities which enable local people to access more of the care they need in one place helping us deliver an integrated healthcare service for the 21st century.

“We will continue to work with our partners during the months ahead to ensure that any disruption to the public and patients is kept to a minimum and there is a smooth transition of services once the enhanced facility is complete.”

The project will see the number of consulting and treatment rooms increased, along with extra parking and a modern reception and waiting areas. The surgery will stay open throughout the construction.

The scheme has been funded by NHS England, North Yorkshire Clinical Commissioning Group and Glebe House Surgery.
