Princess Beatrice marries in surprise private ceremony

-

PRINCESS BEATRICE has married in secret in a private ceremony attended by the Queen.

Her wedding to property developer Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi had to be postponed as the original date fell during the full lockdown period in May.

The unusually low-key wedding is a contrast to previous Royal ceremonies, such as the wedding of her sister Princess Eugenie to Jack Brooksbank in 2018 or that of their cousin Prince Harry.

The rearranged nuptials were not announced in advance and official photographs have not yet been released. As well as the Queen and the Duke of Edinburgh, Princess Beatrice’s parents Prince Andrew and Sarah, Duchess of York were in attendance.

Buckingham Palace said in a statement: “The private wedding ceremony of Princess Beatrice and Mr Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi took place at 11am on Friday 17 July at The Royal Chapel of All Saints, at Royal Lodge, Windsor.

“The small ceremony was attended by the Queen, the Duke of Edinburgh and close family. The wedding took place in accordance with all relevant government guidelines.”

Mr Mapelli Mozzi and Beatrice began dating in 2018, having been part of the same social circle for many years. He has a son from a previous relationship.

The princess, who split from her long-term partner Dave Clark in 2016 after 10 years together, got engaged during a weekend trip to Italy.

The ceremony is believed to be the first time the Queen and Prince Philip have attended a family gathering since the lockdown.
