Johnson wants us all to follow the science – why didn’t he?

BORIS Johnson’s comment that “anti-vaxxers are nuts” will surely be counterproductive. Firstly, because these are normal intelligent people who have a variety of concerns about vaccines which need to be addressed.

Secondly, if a government wants people to behave in a rational way and “follow the science”, it has to set a good example; something that this Government had signally failed to do on several occasions. It failed to stockpile sufficient PPE for a pandemic and it was slow to enforce lockdown in spite of scientific advice.

The trip by Dominic Cummings to Durham could hardly inspire the hoi polloi to remain in lockdown or to trust the Government’s judgment.

WHAT hypocrisy! Liberal Democrat peer Lord Wallace (The Yorkshire Post, July 25) wishes to lecture us on the importance of democracy. Is this the same Liberal Democrat party that showed its utter contempt for democracy at the last General Election by insisting that it would do its best to keep the UK in the European Union and ignore the referendum vote?

Well, they got their just rewards in the election, having revealed themselves to be a half-baked party of losers and dreamers. Perhaps the next thing they should do is change their name, as they most certainly are not democrats.

I ENDORSE the questions raised by Barry Foster (The Yorkshire Post, July 25). Firstly, why has the Chancellor not given pay rises to “nurses and other NHS staff ”?

Secondly, where has the money raised by Captain Sir Tom Moore gone – into what funds?

I CANNOT believe the Government can be so insensitive not giving a raise to nurses on the basis they had one previously, it’s like red rag to a bull. No one has worked harder at the front line of this pandemic than these people. They deserve a reward and at least a morale booster. God bless them and the work they committed to do.
