Energy efficiency measures are expected to save council 330 tonnes of C02 a year
PLANS FOR a £1.2m project to install environmentally-friendly technology in a Yorkshire council’s buildings have been heralded as “invaluable” to tackling climate change.
Craven District Council’s policy committee has agreed to progress with the ambitious scheme to introduce solar panels and other energy efficiency measures in the authority’s buildings.
If a meeting of the full council approves the decision on Wednesday, the authority will submit an application to the European
Regional Development Fund to part-fund the scheme.
The council’s lead member for Greener Craven, Coun Carl Lis, said: “If the recommendations are approved and the bid is successful, it will see the council introduce a range of renewable energy solutions across its operational buildings.
“As a step towards achieving a sustainable future, these measures are invaluable.”
The plans involve installing renewable energy and carbon reduction measures in Aireview
House, Belle Vue Square, Craven Leisure centre, Skipton Crematorium, Skipton Town Hall and the waste management depot.
Measures will include heat recovery systems, improved insulation and enhanced management of buildings. The project is due to save 330 tonnes of carbon dioxide emissions year on year.
Renewable energy technology will also be introduced in 28 Yorkshire Housing properties.
The council has set a target of working towards net zero carbon emissions by 2030.
