THE DRAMATIC rescue of a Huddersfield man who was thrown 10ft into the air after being hit by a car was broadcast on television last night.

Viewers of the latest episode of Helicopter ER watched footage of the Yorkshire Air Ambulance as it flew to the aid of Jordan Porter after he was hit by a car while walking down Chapel Hill on his way home from the pub.

The 21- year- old bounced off the car’s windscreen and was catapulted 10ft into the air before landing on the pavement, unconscious.

The show featured the air ambulance crew using ‘ night vision’ technology to navigate obstacles in the dark and land safely in the town centre, guided by police.

On the ground, the team assessed Mr Porter and placed him in an induced coma for the flight to Leeds General Infirmary, where tests revealed he had

suffered three brain bleeds and a fractured skull.

He was in a coma for 17 days and has been left with permanent deafness in one ear and also suffers from seizures.

But despite his ongoing health issues, Mr Porter, who does not remember the incident or the days leading up to it, has been able to return to work as a bin man as well as picking back up his love of playing football.

Now in its fifth series, Helicopter ER is a Discovery Channel series broadcast on channel Really which follows the Yorkshire Air Ambulance as it attends incidents around the region.

Last night’s episode also featured a cardiac arrest in Ilkley and a 20ft fall in the Yorkshire Dales.

Yorkshire Air Ambulance serves five million people across Yorkshire and carries out over 1,500 missions every year.

The charity operates two, state- of- the- art Airbus H145 helicopters and needs to raise a total of £ 12,000 every day to keep saving lives.

The service runs seven days a week, 365 days of the year and flies at speeds of up to 160mph,
