A FARMING charity is pushing ahead with celebrations to mark its 25th anniversary and highlight the work of the nation’s agricultural industry.
The Farming Community Network ( FCN) is set to stage an event next month for its Big 25 campaign, which will encourage people to plan routes in their local areas and walk in support of the charity.
The FCN’s Yorkshire coordinator, Lisa Cardy, said the charity has had “the privilege” of “walking with Yorkshire farmers” for the past 25 years.
She added: “We have more than 30 volunteers in Yorkshire and have supported many farming families.
“Covid- 19 has meant we haven’t been able to visit farms or the auction markets and have missed that contact with the community.
“It has also meant, like many other organisations, we have had to change our plans to celebrate our 25th anniversary.
“On October 10 and 11, however, we are planning local walks to highlight the work of FCN and encourage all those who would like to support us to walk with the FCN and highlight the work we do within the farming community.”
Alex Phillimore, the marketing and communications manager for the charity, said the Big 25 event is a “great opportunity” for the FCN to recognise the work of its volunteers throughout England and Wales.
“With Covid- 19 causing many of our planned anniversary events to be postponed or delayed, we wanted to make sure we still do something during our anniversary year to highlight everything we have accomplished up to this point, and to remind those in rural communities in need of support to reach out to us.
“The FCN is known for walking with those in the farming community who are going through difficult times.
“By conducting local walks with the FCN’s volunteers, friends, family, we’re encouraging those who support the charity to walk with us.”
