Brief respite from the rain sees the best of autumn’s colours on display

-

THE MET Office is predicting there is more rain on the way for Yorkshire, despite the region enjoying some recent respite from Storm Alex that caused heavy rainfall and flood alerts being issued.

According to the Met Office, today will be drier across the region with showers across western areas dying out, with all areas having bright or sunny spells by afternoon. But the rest of the week will be mostly unsettled and rather chilly, with showers merging to give rain at times.

Met Office forecaster Marco Petagna said: “It’s a very showery picture at the moment across the UK, but they are more widespread across southern and western parts of the UK.

“At the moment eastern England including Yorkshire and up towards eastern Scotland are seeing some of the best drier brighter weather away from showers.

“But there is more rain to come for Yorkshire.”

He added southern parts of the Pennines and into Lincolnshire could see another inch of rain tonight and into Thursday.

Walkers made the best of a slight respite in wet weather yesterday, taking in treks among the striking autumn colours, while surfers made the best of the season’s wind to enjoy the beach in other parts of the country.

Mr Petagna said Storm Alex, which saw urgent flood alerts put in place for the River Ouse at York at the weekend, had affected the region.

The average rainfall for North Yorkshire in October is 92mm ( 3.6in), and already the area has seen 32mm ( 1.2in) of rainfall up until October 4, while South Yorkshire, which has an average of 74mm ( 3in), has seen 28mm ( 1.1in) of rain in the first four days.

It’s a very showery picture at the moment across the UK. Marco Petagna, Met Office forecaster.
