Muldoon grabs double in Harrogate victory

- GRIMSBY TOWN HARROGATE TOWN

HARROGATE TOWN created enough chances to have won two games, but in the end a brace of Jack Muldoon strikes proved sufficient to see off Grimsby Town at Blundell Park.

Simon Weaver’s team dominated the majority of the contest, causing the home defence all sorts of problems.

George Thomson somehow managed to fire over the crossbar from four yards out with the goal gaping before Muldoon made a breakthrough on 25 minutes.

In sliding to try and prevent Danny Preston’s header from going out for a corner, Mariners custodian James McKeown only succeeded in gifting possession to Thomson, who showed good composure to pull back from the left for Muldoon to finish.

That lead would last less than a minute, however, as almost straight from kick- off, James Tilley was afforded time to direct a low effort past James Belshaw.

Undeterred, Harrogate continued to make most of the running and re- claimed the advantage, Muldoon side- footing the loose ball into an empty net after McKeown parried Calvin Miller’s strike.

The second half saw Town come close to adding to their tally on a number of occasions, though they had already done enough to move up to fourth in the League Two standings.
