LATEST! HEARING AIDS SLASH DEMENTIA RISK! AT- HOME HEARING TESTS

-

Hearing loss in midlife can raise your risk of developing dementia in the future by up to 40%. Now, health experts from the Lancet Commission claim that for those 45- 65 year olds, simply wearing a hearing aid could significantly reduce their risk of developing the devastating condition in the first place.

WHEN you consider the benefits that come with looking after your hearing, figures from a leading UK charity are all the more startling – up to 60% of those who need a hearing aid don’t have one! Leading independent company Hearmore UK is committed to improving this shortfall with their nationwide programme of ‘ in- yourownhome’ hearing tests.

Free- of- charge, and taking place in the familiar, relaxed privacy of your home, your hearing test is carried out by a professionallyrecognised and fully- qualified audiologist. Fast turnaround 48- hour appointments can be arranged, or simply choose a time that suits you better.

This is your opportunity to address hearing loss without excuse. Armed with your results, you can take advantage of the wide range of devices available today, and enjoy effortless sound and living life to the full again.

WHAT TO EXPECT: BEFORE YOUR ASSESSMENT

First, a few questions in confidence to get a better understanding of your hearing. You will be asked about work, hobbies and interests, and if there is anything which might impact on your hearing. Anything relevant in your medical history can also be discussed.

This first step is much more than a simple ‘ fact finding’ exercise. It’s also a chance to get to know your audiologist. So, if your hearing needs a boost, you can work together to find a solution.

DURING YOUR ASSESSMENT

First, an examination of the ear canal with an otoscope checks for damage or infection. During the hearing test, sounds will be played into your ears via headphones. You will be asked to push a button with each sound to establish how well you hear levels and pitches. The test is repeated with a headband. Some hearing aids pass sound vibrations through the skull. This test helps identify your suitability for these.

AFTER YOUR ASSESSMENT

Your results will be explained to you straight away. If hearing loss is detected, your audiologist will explain the possible causes and consequences.

Your hearing test will be carried out by a fully- independent and professionally- qualified audiologist with no ‘ brand’ ties
