Yorkshire Puddings hit heights to celebrate firm’s anniversary

-

AUNT BESSIE’S has created the UK’s tallest Yorkshire Pudding cake, at 25 tiers, to celebrate its silver anniversary in style.

The showstopper creation took more than two hours to carefully construct and measures 8ft 11ins, around the same height as the world’s verified tallest ever human.

The cake consisted of 965 Aunt Bessie’s Golden Yorkshire Puddings, a new recipe, plus a few fillings and lashings of gravy.

David Barr, so- called Yorkshire Pudding “guru” at Aunt Bessie’s, said: “Having worked at the factory for three decades, I’ve tasted thousands of Yorkshire puddings and seen lots of changes – but I’m proud to say that this is our best recipe yet.

“We only use the finest quality ingredients to ensure the best- tasting puds end up on the nation’s dinner plates. What better way to mark this magnificent milestone than with a gigantic Yorkshire Pudding cake.”

Aunt Bessie’s was created in 1995 after its thenparent company was asked to supply Butlins holiday camps with frozen Yorkshire puddings.

The Aunt Bessie’s Hull factory site produces 639,095,954 Yorkshire puddings each year – more than 4,470 Yorkshires every minute. This includes churning through a whopping half a million eggs, 110 tonnes of batter and 40 tonnes of flour every day to meet the demand.

In 2018, Aunt Bessie’s joined Nomad Foods.

An international frozen foods company, Nomad works across 17 countries, and has top positions in 10 countries spanning the UK and Europe.

The UK’s first Yorkshire pudding recipe reportedly dates back to 1747, according to Aunt Bessie’s.
