Chester’s resurgent Trinity no longer ‘ over- thinking matters’

- DAVE CRAVEN

WAKEFIELD TRINITY head coach Chris Chester says his side’s change in fortunes has been down to them no longer “over- thinking” matters.

They were marooned at the foot of Super League following a 10- game losing run but have picked up two wins in four days ahead of tonight’s game against Leeds Rhinos.

Trinity delivered their first win since the end of lockdown when beating Huddersfield Giants a week ago and followed up with an emphatic victory over Hull KR on Sunday.

With Challenge Cup winners Leeds having seen four regulars need to stand down this evening for track and trace reasons, they will fancy their chances of making it three wins from three when they head to the Totally Wicked Stadium. Chester said: “It is amazing what a couple of wins does to a group.

“We’re really pleased to have responded in the way we have and to come up with two really good performances.

“What we have changed over the last couple of weeks is we’ve not worried too much about the opposition and tried not to overthink things.

“We’ve played with a lot more energy with the ball and not been scared of throwing the ball about and that was plain to see last weekend.”

Trinity have no positive Covid tests this week and captain Jacob Miller will return ater missing the KR game.

But Matty Ashurst ( ankle) and Tony Gigot ( elbow) have been ruled out of Trinity’s remaining games and Jay Pitts, Craig Kopczak and Titus Gwaze are still isolating.

Chester added: “The players are certainly playing with confidence, but we know this is another step up.

“We aren’t going to get the cheap possession we got against Hull KR, but you can certainly see a difference within the group.”
