Confusion over the rules
From: Stephen Place, the Alliance for Democracy and Freedom Party spokesman for Law & Order, Saltaire, Bradford.
WITH so many different Covid- 19 restrictions in force and changes being made almost daily, it will be of no surprise that people have lost all faith in our Government.
More concerning is that people can, and are, falling foul of these restrictions and therefore the law, on a regular basis.
By September 22, a total of 18,646 fines, also known as fixed penalty notices, had been issued to errant members of the public nationally. Half of these had not been paid.
Fast forward to the week beginning October 19. We have the senior police officer leading the police’s response to Covid, Assistant Chief Constable Owen Wetherill, telling MPs that as the restrictions vary by geographical area so much, they are in essence unenforceable.
Robert Jenrick MP, Secretary of State for Housing, Communities and
Local Government, when interviewed on Sky News by Kay Burley, had no idea about the restrictions and asked people to look at the Government website for clarity.
Jenrick was later seen in a pizza restaurant holding a meeting briefing business leaders. Is this against the rules? No one from the Government could successfully shed light on that point.
Kit Malthouse MP, Minister for Policing, who appeared the next day on the same show, clearly had no idea about the restrictions for gyms in Greater Manchester.
It is very easy to mock at the ridiculousness of the situation, but this is very serious as people’s livelihoods, families and homes are at stake here.
We cannot have one rule for some and one for the rest and it is unforgivable that the law makers and the law enforcers have no idea about what they are doing and what they are imposing on the general public
