Two women killed after car hits tree

-

TWO women died after a car crashed into a tree near a West Yorkshire village.

Police received a call from paramedics at the scene in Carr Lane, Thorner, Leeds, at 7.30am on Thursday.

However, investigators believe the black Renault Clio may have crashed much earlier as the last sighting was shortly before 1am.

Despite receiving medical treatment, two 30- year- old women died at the scene.

They have yet to be named but West Yorkshire Police officers are supporting their families.

Detective Inspector Paul Conroy, from the force’s Major Collision Enquiry Team, said: “We are conducting a full investigation into the circumstances of this collision which has sadly resulted in the death of two women.

“We have specially trained officers with their families at this difficult time.”

He went on to make a direct appeal for information to anyone who was in the Carr Lane area from around 1am on Thursday and who saw the vehicle at any stage that night.

“We understand that the vehicle was last seen at approximately 12.50am on Wyke Ridge Lane, travelling away from Leeds,” he added.

Floral tributes had begun to appear at the scene yesterday.

Messages of condolence were also shared on social media, including by those who knew the two women.

Catherine Williams said: “I know one of these ladies. Two small children left without a mother. So tragic RIP.”

Nicole Fish wrote: “RIP ladies, you will be missed by many. Moortown will never be the same.”

Neil Abbott said: “So sad for two such young ladies to lose their lives. Absolutely devastating for their families.”
