The eyes have it for Roux as portrait wins top Event Photography award
A PHOTGRAPH OF celebrity chef Albert Roux has taken the top spot at the Event Photography awards. It features the Michelinstar cook intently inspecting food before it is served at Wimbledon.
The expressive, black- andwhite photo of the 85- year- old, entitled Eyes For Detail, captured the behind- the- scenes moment before a plate of gourmet food was served up at the Tennis Championships.
The photo, captured by Deb Porter, was hailed as a “shining” example of the commitment and attention to detail needed to succeed in the events industry.
And the intimate photo of Mr
Roux, owner of three Michelinstar restaurant La Gavroche in London, secured the top spot at Off To Work’s Event Photography Awards 2020.
The annual photography awards, in their seventh year, were held last night, with a virtual awards ceremony streamed by a host of event photographers and industry professionals.
Founded by event staffing agency Off To Work, this year’s awards were made all the more poignant by the impact of Covid on the events industry.
The awards saw thousands of votes online – usually placed in person at a live awards ceremony – for a longlist of more than 600 photos. The ‘ People’s Choice’ votes saw a record 70 photographers being shortlisted across 16 categories.
Deb Porter won out overall with her photo of Albert Roux, which also won the Catering category.
Elsewhere in the shortlist, last year’s overall winner, Andrew Billington, claimed a runner- up prize, with his heartwarming Wedding category winner, entitled Peek- a- boo.
The photo, inset, shows a cheeky young boy peering out from under the white tablecloth on the head table at a wedding – as an old man raises a glass to the happy couple above him.
The awards were originally due to take place in May, showcasing the best of events photography from 2019, but have been delayed due to Covid.
