Man hit by car speaks out to mark Road Safety Week events

-

A YORKSHIRE man who suffered a head injury after a car flung him into the air has spoken of his determination to keep recovering as lawyers secured him a settlement.

Joshua Nevison, from Keighley, was walking to catch a bus when the car hit him as he was crossing Bradford Road, Riddlesden, in May last year.

Mr Nevison, 27, was thrown into the air, landing on the road, and was airlifted to hospital.

He suffered a fractured skull, and a bleed and swelling to his brain. His left lung also collapsed, the right side of his jaw shattered and he had face injuries.

Mr Nevison instructed Irwin Mitchell to investigate and his legal team yesterday reported that it has secured a settlement to help him access the specialist rehabilitation and therapies.

Since the collision, he has suffered with cognitive problems including concentration, change in mood, fatigue, memory loss, headaches, difficulty tolerating noise, and loss of co- ordination.

He has been able to return to work as a data input operator and is joining the lawyers in marking Road Safety Week, which started yesterday.

Mr Nevison said: “That day, my world was turned upside down in a matter of seconds and nothing has been the same since. With a brain injury, every day can be a struggle – I’m often tired and my memory is not what it used to be.

“I sometimes worry about the long term impact of my injuries and what this means for the future, but I am determined to work through it and continue with my recovery as best I can.

“I hope that my experience encourages others to remain vigilant on the roads and stay safe at all times, as I wouldn’t want anyone else to go through what I have.”
