Loyal readers hail Yorkshire Post as lifeline in pandemic
A LOYAL Yorkshire Post subscriber has shared how the paper has been a “lifeline” to her and her husband throughout the lonely months of lockdowns.
Jean Lancaster, 72, began subscribing to the paper about five years ago.
Mrs Lancaster and her husband, John, 81, live in Drax, near Selby, and the newspaper is delivered to their home each morning.
She said: “Getting the paper is a real highlight. On Christmas Day when it doesn’t come, it’s like missing part of your arm.
“We really do look forward to it coming, and we read it cover to cover. It keeps us up to date with everything and I would miss it if we didn’t read it.
“It’s a lifeline. It’s always there. Especially at the moment where we can’t go anywhere and do anything, I can’t wait for it to come.”
Mr Lancaster is a keen longtime member of Selby Rugby Club and his favourite part of the newspaper are the sports pages, while Mrs Lancaster enjoys keeping up-to-date with local news and does a puzzle each day.
The couple, who have a son and
three grandchildren, are looking forward to catching up with friends and family across Yorkshire as soon as restrictions are lifted.
Mrs Lancaster and her husband were both vaccinated against coronavirus last month in Selby.
She said: “Having the vaccine was like a military operation, and it was just brilliant. I can’t wait to see my grandkids. That’s been the worst of it.
“And I’m missing going out
with friends and family for something to eat.
“The rugby club has been John’s life, and a lot of them are missing it like mad.”
The Yorkshire Post is offering six weeks’ free delivery during the lockdown for new subscribers with print and digital bundles available for readers to access all the paper’s news, sports, puzzles and cartoons however they prefer.
