Queen is the best person to solve the fallout over Harry and Meghan, says biographer

-

A YORKSHIRE-BASED Royal biographer has said the Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s interview complaints on press intrusion were “ill-advised”.

Harry and Meghan’s interview with Oprah Winfrey, in which they disclosed details of family tensions and their mental health, has sent out shockwaves since its broadcast on Sunday.

The couple, inset, also said a member of the Royal family had expressed concern over the colour of their then-unborn son’s skin.

Elisabeth Basford, whose biography of the Queen’s aunt

Princess Mary was published earlier this year, told of the press intrusion faced by other royals in decades past.

She said: “Every single Royal when entering the family gets bombarded by sections of the press.

“In 1923, when Princess Mary had her first baby, members of the press pretended to be delivery boys so they could get into their house.

“I know it’s not right and it’s a horrible thing to go through, but a lot of Royals do. None of this is nice and it isn’t acceptable but this is what some of the press do.”

Mrs Basford added: “Overall, the interview was enormously illadvised and disrespectful to the Queen. She has given her life to the institution and, more than that, she’s Harry’s grandma.

“I think the Queen is the best person to sort this out. I am still confident she will try to do something.”

Her comments came as Piers Morgan demanded an apology from American TV network CBS for what he says were “disgraceful slurs” against him.

The presenter, who quit ITV’s Good Morning Britain after saying he did not believe the Duchess of Sussex’s comments, was responding on Twitter to an apology by Sharon Osbourne.

Osbourne, 68, had defended him earlier this week, saying: “I feel I’m about to be put in the electric chair because I have a friend who many people think is a racist, so that makes me a racist.”
