Great British holiday ideas

- From: Kate Dale, Helperby, York.

ANDREW Vine (The Yorkshire Post, March 30) suggests that we should put holidays abroad on hold this year.

The Government seem to be sitting on the fence by ‘keeping the door open’ on taking foreign holidays whilst warning of the potential dangers of doing so. I understand they have to balance science with the economy, but wouldn’t it be a better strategy to encourage holidays at home?

There are so many fantastic places to visit, and many of us have lost touch with what’s on offer here because we have been persuaded to get on a plane and go elsewhere.

Our economy needs all the help it can get and the hospitality and tourism sector have suffered more than most in the past year.

They provide superb locations, accommodation, service and experiences, as well as employing local people, promoting local food and using local services.

Whether it’s a day out, a weekend away or a longer stay, we are truly spoilt with options. There have been some superb programmes on recently, singing the praises of Yorkshire and Cumbria in particular.

Have a look at what’s available and keep on promoting all that is great in our own county at The Yorkshire Post please!

By changing the narrative to something more positive, surely that helps us all?

LOOKING at the pictures of crowds of people gathering together in the sun, one wonders if the numeracy skills in this country are at an all time low or there are some really large households meeting with other seriously large households?
