Hull’s Brown did not know he had been sent off

- Carl Livesey SPORTS REPORTER

HULL coach Tony Smith revealed Fa’amanu Brown did not even realise he had been sent off after his controversial dismissal in his side’s loss at Warrington.

Brown became Hull’s third player to receive a red card in two games as their dismal start to the Betfred Super League campaign continued with a 36-10 defeat at the Halliwell Jones Stadium on Friday.

The former Newcastle Knights hooker was given his marching orders while the score was 6-6 just before half-time following an accidental clash of heads with Ben Currie.

Smith said: “He thought he had been sin binned. He was gobsmacked about it. He didn’t realise he had got a red card. He was disappointed and upset about the decision, but we have to get on with it.”

Wakefield Trinity ran in 13 tries – all converted by Max Jowett – as they thrashed minnows Hunslet ARLFC 78-6 in the fourth round of the Betfred Challenge Cup yesterday.

Bradford Bulls were knocked out by visitors Widnes Vikings, 26-12 at Odsal. Kieran Gill and Billy Jowitt with the home tries, both converted by Jordan Lilley.

Batley Bulldogs are through after a 30-14 home win over Rochdale Hornets, while Connor Jones scored a hat-trick of tries and Thomas Lacans a try and nine goals as Featherstone Rovers hammered hosts Keighley Cougars 58-14.

On Saturday, York Acorn edged fellow amateurs Wath Brow Hornets 32-28 and Halifax Panthers brushed aside Hammersmith Hill Hoists, 50-4.

Fifth round draw: Halifax Panthers v York Acorn; Widnes Vikings v Batley Bulldogs; Featherstone Rovers v Wakefield Trinity; Swinton/OIdham v Sheffield Eagles. Matches to be played March 9-10.
