QUICK FIRE with Countryfile presenter Adam Henson

-

Guilty pleasure? I’ve got a sweet tooth and can’t resist desserts, especially classics such as rice pudding and sticky toffee pudding.

Where is home? A farm in the heart of the Cotswolds, where I was born and bred, with my partner Charlie and our children Ella, 18, and Alfie, 14.

Career plan B? I’m already doing it – not that working in the media was ever a plan. I think of presenting Countryfile as farm diversification.

Who would play you in a movie of your life? Damian Lewis – I’ve been mistaken for him in the past.

Biggest bugbear? Food being wasted, at home or on a national level. As a farmer it breaks my heart. Earliest memory? Helping my dad out on the farm, stomping in puddles and carrying lambs around. Your best quality? Making time for people, whether it’s family, friends or members of the public who enjoy Countryfile. And your worst? I have no self-control when it comes to cake. Secret to a happy relationship? Being able to laugh together is essential. Most romantic thing you’ve ever done? Buying Charlie a hungarian vizsla puppy as a surprise birthday present nine years ago. Last meal on earth? A rib eye steak from a traditional British breed with chips, tomatoes and mushrooms, followed by cake with ice cream. Dream dinner party guests? David Attenborough, Judi Dench, Peter Kay and Cameron Diaz. Cat or dog? Dog – I have two border collies who work on the farm, Peg and Maud. Worst job you’ve ever done? Planting tea by hand in the Atherton Tablelands, Northern Australia, when I went travelling after agricultural college. It was muddy and horrible. Starstruck moment? Sitting next to the Queen at a lunch at Buckingham Palace last year. She was delightful and I had an amazing time. Favourite tipple? We supply malting barley to Butcombe Brewery in Bristol for a beer called Adam Henson’s Rare Breed, which I love. Hangover cure? Get outside into the cold morning air and start working. Top of your bucket list? I’ve always been a tenant farmer, but I would love to own my own land one day. Biggest inspiration? My dad, who died last October. He was everything a father should be – loving, supportive, brilliant fun and a great mentor. Philosophy of life? It’s very easy to complain, but the key is to make the most of what you have. Where would you time travel to? I would go back and redo my teenage years more sensibly. I was a bit wild. First record you bought? The first album by The Specials. Most extravagant purchase? A family holiday to Mozambique and Zambia – we went on an amazing safari. Biggest regret? Not buying a house when I was in my late 20s. Celebrity crush? Cameron Diaz. Happiness is… Knowing that your family is safe, healthy and secure. Adam’s memoir Like Farmer, Like Son is published by BBC Books, price £18.99*. Countryfile is on BBC One on Sundays at 7pm
