Q UICKFIRE with singer Matt Goss

Former Bros singer on politics, Princess Diana and playing Caesars Palace

-

Guilty pleasure? Politics. I’m obsessed with the US presidential election. I won’t say who I would vote for, but I’m not into alarmists or fearmongers. Where is home? I split my time between Los Angeles and Las Vegas, but still have a house in London. Career plan B? Fashion designer or painter. Who would play you in a movie of your life? I wouldn’t mind Jude Law. As a child you wanted to be… A vet. Earliest memory? Sunday lunch with my grandad, mum and brother Luke in Camberwell, South London. Your best quality? I’m kind and inclusive. And your worst? I’m a workaholic and too private. Secret to a happy relationship? Trust and communication – without either you are fighting a losing battle. Most romantic thing you’ve ever done? Propose to my ex-fiancée Daisy Fuentes. Although we split up in 2010, we’re still good mates. Dream dinner-party guests? Elvis Presley, Winston Churchill, John Lennon, Horatio Nelson, Rita Hayworth, Bette Davis and Gandhi. Advice to your teenage self? Let go of bad stuff and trust people. But don’t trust everyone. Any chance of a Bros reunion? I’m up for it and I think my brother is, too. If someone came to us with the right offer, it could happen. Cat or dog? Dog. I recently lost two, an English bulldog called Alfie and a wheaten terrier called Rita. I love dogs and will definitely get another. Starstruck moment? Lunch with Princess Diana at the Café Royal, London, in 1989. She was a beautiful person with a loving heart. Career highlight? Having my own room, The Gossy Room, at Caesars Palace in Las Vegas, where I’ve been doing my live show for two years longer than I was in Bros. Favourite tipple? Scotch on the rocks. Hangover cure? Scotch. Top of your bucket list? To buy a Caribbean island with a couple of little cottages on it. Biggest inspiration? Without question my mother Carol, who passed away two years ago. I still feel her guidance every day. One thing that would make your life better? To get married and have a family. There’s no prospect of it at the moment, unfortunately. Philosophy? When in doubt, say nothing – and treat people with respect. Last film that made you cry? Room with Brie Larson. It’s such a powerful expression of the connection between a mother and son. It hit a nerve with me. Where would you time travel to? The 20s and 30s for fashion, art and architecture, but for a good time I would hang out with the Rat Pack in the 50s. First record you bought? ‘Low Rider’ by War. Most extravagant purchase? I’ve bought cars for people close to me – giving gifts is my favourite thing. Celebrity crush? Sandra Bullock. Happiness is… True peace of mind – if that’s possible – which means that you and the people you love are safe, healthy and well. Matt is playing a one-off concert at the SSE Arena, Wembley, on Saturday; livenation.co.uk
