The Inbetweeners Movie star Lydia Rose Bewley on angels and orang-utans

-

My maternal grandmother gave me this gold locket for my 21st birthday and her wedding ring before she passed away. I wear the ring on my right hand after a palm reader told me I’d never get married if I wore it on my left. When my other grandma died I had a rose-gold ring made with ‘I love you to the moon and back’ engraved on it.

There’s something magical about having a bit of fire in a room, so I take candles with me wherever I go. I light them in hotel rooms, studios and trailers as they instantly create atmosphere and make everything feel all right.

I collect trolls – I’m not a Barbie kind of girl. I was given this clown troll on my sixth birthday and have more than 100 now. I’d have closer to 150 if my brothers hadn’t massacred them when I was growing up.

When I was 19 I went to India for seven weeks to get some life experience. I took crayons and my journal and drew and wrote all the time. The Taj Mahal was a turning point for me – a man groped me, I confronted him and he got chucked out.

My mother Vida is a potter and reflexologist, but she used to be an opera singer – she played Titania at Glyndebourne. She made a line of A Midsummer Night’s Dream pottery including these sardine tins with Titania in her flowery bower.

I take my angel cards everywhere. I light a candle, pick three cards and read their positive affirmations. Everyone on The Inbetweeners set made fun of them but they all had a reading.

When I was at drama school we had a thing called animal studies. Two mornings a week for three months I had to pretend to be an orang-utan, learning their mannerisms and hanging off a fire escape in a leotard. I loved it.

My mum is a big knitter – she made this hat for me – and I knit, too, especially in between takes to help switch off. I’ll never forget Danny Dyer’s shock when he came on Plebs and saw me knitting.

This skirt was given to me on comedy show I Live With Models, in which I play Jess, a ‘curve’ model living in New York. It’s from Coast and I’ve worn it so much that I bought it in black, too. Playing a model, you have to feel confident and I felt amazing in this skirt. I Live With Models is on Comedy Central UK on Mondays at 8pm
