My home is my cocoon, it’s where I feel safe and relaxed,’ says Barbara Boccara. As half of the duo behind Parisian fashion label ba&sh, she knows all about comfortable glamour. Alongside her best friend Sharon Krief (the name ba&sh comes from the first letters of their names), Barbara designs clothing beloved by effortlessly chic women such as Vanessa Paradis, Joséphine de la Baume and Clémence Poésy.

Barbara’s Paris home reflects a similarly stylish approach. ‘I love clothes that are a little bit bohemian and blouses with embroidery,’ she says. ‘And in our home there’s definitely a correlation because I like simplicity with a touch of ethnic style. I’m drawn to natural and raw materials such as linen, wood and metal.’

Each of the handsome spaces in Barbara’s lofty apartment feels creative and cool thanks to a combination of global fabrics, natural textures and straightforward, unfussy staples. Furniture and fittings with crisp outlines in black and off-white – the interiors equivalent of a little black dress – are Barbara’s backdrop, which she has embellished with more exotic touches.

The kitchen cabinets, in a rich black that allows the grain of the wood to show through, are a case in point. Chic but supremely functional, they fade into the background to let lighter, brighter accessories, from woven pendant lights to glassware, shine through.

Tall, built-in storage performs a similar trick in the seating area, allowing Barbara to display ceramics, books and glassware that she has brought together from near and far.

Holidaywear is a focus of ba&sh and travel is a constant source of ideas: ‘Heading off the beaten track inspires me for both my work and my home,’ says Barbara. In her apartment, woven throws, Moroccan rugs and bamboo and seagrass baskets – the kind of finds one
