QUICKFIRE with Line of Duty actor Lee Ingleby

-

Guilty pleasure? Treating myself to a whisky sour on a night out – it’s my favourite tipple. Where is home? Crouch End, North London, where I’ve lived for the past 15 years. But I’m originally from Nelson in Lancashire and still have family there. Career plan B? Being a wildlife photographer or cameraman has always appealed to me. Who would play you in a movie of your life? Cate Blanchett would be fun – and she’s already played a man, appearing as Bob Dylan in the film I’m Not There. Biggest bugbear? People being late. As a child you wanted to be… A member of TV’s The A-Team. Earliest memory? Baking with my grandma in the kitchen of her house in Yorkshire. Secret to a happy relationship? Laughter, definitely. As long as you keep laughing, it makes everything so much easier. Your best quality? Optimism – something I’ve taken from my dad. And your worst? I have a low boredom threshold. Most romantic thing you’ve ever done? Adopting a rescue cat, Harry, as a present for my girlfriend about eight months ago. Now I think she loves him more than me. Last meal on earth? My mum’s steak and kidney pie with bread and butter on the side. Advice to teenage self? Don’t get as drunk as you did on your 17th birthday. What do you see when you look in the mirror? Someone who isn’t in their 20s any more. On a day off we’d find you… Browsing round museums and galleries. Starstruck moment? Having a vodka martini with Paul Simon and Art Garfunkel after they performed in Hyde Park in 2004. I was a massive fan growing up and was taken backstage by a friend who knew them. Big break? My first big role was in Nature Boy, a BBC mini-series broadcast in 2000. Career highlight? Working with the director Peter Weir and Russell Crowe on the film Master and Commander: The Far Side of the World. Hangover cure? A cold shower and brisk walk. What did you have for breakfast today? A coffee and a croissant – coffee is the first thing I reach for in the morning. Top of your bucket list? To see all seven wonders of the modern world. I’ve seen three so far: Petra in Jordan, the statue of Christ the Redeemer in Brazil and the Colosseum in Rome. Philosophy? Carpe diem [seize the day] is a good one. Last film that made you cry? Moonlight. It is beautiful. Where would you time travel to? VE Day in London on 8 May 1945, which marked the end of the Second World War in Europe. First record you bought? Pills ’n’ Thrills and Bellyaches by Happy Mondays. Most extravagant purchase? A classic Mini Cooper, which I bought on a whim for £1,500 about 15 years ago. I could never get it to start and soon got rid of it, but a few years later bought another one, which I still have. Biggest fear? Alzheimer’s disease, which I’ve witnessed with grandparents. Celebrity crush? Julie Christie in the 1963 film Billy Liar. She is still a beautiful woman. Happiness is… Being in love – and yes, I am.
