TIKTOK’S TASTIEST HITS

With over a billion views, these are the recipes that went beyond viral on the video-sharing app. The perfect excuse, we thought, to try and taste them…

THE IDEA

Put the ingredients of a classic baked oat recipe in a blender, whiz until smooth, then bake. According to Tiktokers the result is light and airy, almost like eating cake for breakfast.

THE VERDICT: 3/5

It took a few attempts to achieve anything close to being ‘light and airy’. Overblending the oats ended up with a slightly gluey consistency, so we found it better to whiz the oats separately then combine with the wet ingredients just before baking. This version is not as simple as the Tiktok original, but we would happily eat it for breakfast.

THE IDEA

Much like with classic hasselback potatoes, by cutting lots of ridges into them you create extra surface area. Which means more crispy bits and, in this recipe, extra pockets for the garlic butter to seep into.

THE VERDICT: 5/5

These take a bit of time to prepare, and you are left with a lot of potato offcuts (see tip), but they look great and are addictively delicious. Your guests will appreciate the effort. 3-4 10 MINUTES 35 MINUTES

Not so much a recipe, more a clever technique for folding wraps by separating your filling ingredients into four sections. If you want to toast your wrap in a pan, make sure to put the cheese in the third or fourth section, as these will sit on the outside of the folded wrap.

THE VERDICT: 4/5

Simple and effective, though don’t be tempted to put too much filling in your wraps as it will fall out. We also found toasting the wraps a bit fiddly, with plenty of filling ending up in the pan during the process.

Stir the drained pasta into the hot tomatoes and feta, stirring everything together to make a creamy sauce. If it looks a little dry you can add a splash of the pasta cooking water. Stir in the remaining basil leaves and serve immediately.

Divide into ten equal portions and lightly roll into balls. Space out on the trays and bake (in two batches if necessary) for about 12 minutes until golden. Cool on the trays for 5 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack. They are very good eaten while still warm or can be cooled completely to room temperature.
