My super-cool new way with skincare

Need a beauty refresh? Try chilling your products

-

Since this is our special food issue I thought it appropriate to extend the theme to these pages, but perhaps not in the way you might expect. I’m not going to talk about ingredients but about refrigeration, because keeping some of your skincare nicely chilled is a great way of not only making it more refreshing to use, but can also help with de-puffing and soothing as well as giving a bit of a boost to circulation.

Plus a couple of recent launches that I’ve been enjoying using (especially on warmer weather days) have been created specifically with the intention that they should be kept in the fridge. One is the Patchology Serve Chilled Rosé range which includes a great face Sheet Mask (£8) and Eye Gels (£14 for five, both selfridges.com) containing hydrating hyaluronic acid plus resveratrol to tackle inflammation. Personally, I keep eye masks in the kitchen fridge year-round but these are my current choice and leave my eyes feeling refreshed and looking brighter.

Skin Proud has also launched a product intended to be kept chilly. Frozen Over (£16.95, asos.com) has a gel-to-ice texture and is a great hydrator – it also features the dependable ingredient hyaluronic acid to do the job. Keep in the fridge or for one, or ideally three hours, in the freezer to add extra de-puffing and soothing power – as well as a bracing wake-up call. Apply in the morning or throughout the day. But if you leave it to freeze for longer than the allotted time the texture will become more like that of a slushy drink.

Another skincare staple I keep in my fridge is De Mamiel Dewy Facial Mist (£52, demamiel.com). Think of this as a serum in spritzable form that you can use to add hydration to your skincare routine, to help to quench skin and during the day on top of make-up. With its high content of Persian rosewater it’s a wonderfulsmelling pick-me-up too.

According to John Lewis, body sprays are having a moment with sales of many up 275 per cent year on year. Keeping them cold makes them even more refreshing to use. I love Tom Ford Neroli Portofino All Over Body Spray,

which is always a great summer fragrance with sunshine notes of bergamot, lemon and orange flower (£55, johnlewis.co.uk or tomford.co.uk).

Tools, such as a Rose Quartz Facial Roller, are also great when used chilled. I like

The White Company’s (£30, thewhitecompany.com). Cryo Facial Tools are becoming more popular, too. Kept in the freezer, they have the added benefit of encouraging lymphatic drainage when rolled over the face. This stylish stainless-steel design from Oxygen Boutique (£55, oxygenboutique.com) is my new go-to. @edwinaingschambers
