My holiday dressing starts at home

Areyouaway–or,evenbetter, away away – this summer?

With the welcome easing of travel restrictions, this is the question everyone is asking.

Personally, I’m definitely on board for a little away away glamour, after endless months of having our wings clipped.

While the fashion industry is buzzing with renewed excitement for what insiders like to call ‘resort wear’, swimwear sales are expected to surpass pre-pandemic levels to hit over £17 billion this year, according to market researchers Euromonitor.

In simple terms, resort wear translates into the clothes you plan to wear on your holiday, usually made from lighter fibres such as cotton, silk, linen, straw and poplin. If we don’t take too much (always guilty of this), it should be easy to pack.

However, when I’m buying a new piece to take on holiday, I always look for something that works back home, too.

Right now, there’s so much to choose from, with some brands big and small looking to cash in on the new wave of enthusiasm for holiday dressing by hosting preview trunk shows in hotels and stores across Europe.

Matches Fashion has just embarked on a Grand Tour of Italy, stopping off in Rome, Florence, Naples and Ischia to host a series of pop-up shops and posting pictures and videos on Instagram to inspire – and tempt! – customers back home. And, of course, it’s not just selling its collections but that special on-vacation feeling, too.

So what looks or pieces are going to be big this holiday season? Here are my top three…
