Drinks: Charlotte’s floral finds

-

Chelsea Flower Show returns this month (21-25 May) – a jolly day out for all, with breathtaking landscape garden designs and floral displays to inspire greenfingered enthusiasts. Many wines I adore have distinctive floral or herbal notes: jasmine in Riesling and honeysuckle in Viognier, hints of eucalyptus (or mint) in Cabernet Sauvignon and thyme and fragrant purple flowers in Syrah. Hence my choices here, for fine al fresco sips.

LES IRIS BEAUJOLAIS 2022 (12.5%), £10, ocado.com. Here’s a charming rouge, featuring crunchy red fruit, with delicate iris and violet notes, guaranteed to enchant guests when served slightly chilled and poured generously to accompany

BBQ treats.

GRAFFIGNA PINOT GRIGIO 2022 (12%), £9, Sainsbury’s. Uncomplicated, refreshing and great value, this Argentine expression of Pinot Grigio showcases juicy citrus notes with an inviting bouquet of white flowers.

ATHLON ASSYRTIKO SYRAH ROSÉ 2023 (12.5%), £9.99, Aldi. With an abundance of summer berries and subtle lavender notes, this Greek rosé, made primarily from the flagship grape Assyrtiko, with a hint of Syrah’s perfume, begs to be opened on a balmy summer evening.

FEVER-TREE SUMMER GARDEN TONIC WATER, £1.80, Waitrose. Sip this zero-abv tipple over ice – or add a cheeky splash of your favourite gin. A brand-new tonic from

F ever-tree, it’s a vibrant thirst-quencher. A garden oasis in a glass.
