TEST…Floor cleaners WE
What does it smell like? How easy is it to use? Does it leave residue?
Specialist floor cleaner in Lavender Blossom, £3 for 1L, Astonish
Using this floor cleaner was simple – the cap was easy to undo yet secure, and the dilution measurements are clearly written. The lavender blossom scent was fresh and not clinical – it smelt like spring had been brought in. However, the fragrance is subtle, so more product is needed if you want a long lasting effect. It dried very quickly, leaving no residue. It even got rid of a slippery area, where a shoe cleaner had been sprayed. Overall, an effective product, especially for the price, but if you prefer a stronger scent, you may get through this bottle
quite quickly.
Floor cleaner in Nutty Almond, from £3.45 for 750ml, Miniml
This eco-friendly, refillable cleaner has a honey-like consistency and its super concentrated formula means it’s brilliant value. This did make it a little tricky to measure though, as you need to keep an eye on it as it gloops into the cap. I also had to wash the cap, before putting it back on the bottle. This cleaner has a very subtle smell, a little like baby powder, which was almost undetectable after it was diluted. It cleaned a textured vinyl bathroom floor really well, removing stains that had been untouched by previous cleaning. It also left a shower tray streakfree and sparkling.
The Pink Stuff all purpose floor cleaner, £1.19 for 1L, The Range
This bright pink bottle would be hard to miss in a cleaning caddy, and it was suitably scented, too. It smelt ever-so-slightly chemically but not unpleasantly so – a subtle smell of rhubarb which didn’t linger. The cleaner was easy to use, and the instructions were clear: simply dilute 2 capfuls in 5 litres of water. It produced a bubbly solution, cleaned the floor well and cut through grime.
However, it did leave cloudy marks behind when used on very glossy floor tiles. It’s a vegan formula, and can also be used neat on sinks, cooker
tops and sanitaryware.
Concentrated floor cleaner, £3.85 for 750ml, Bio-D
Eco-friendly cleaning products can be a pricier option, but this concentrated floor cleaner is great value – a little goes a long way, with 10ml recommended per 5 litres of water, so the 750ml bottle will last you. As its formula is plant-based and non-toxic, and the bottle is made from 100% recycled material, it ticks a lot of planet-friendly boxes and its cleaning power is as good as its eco credentials. It has a subtle scent (great if you’re not a fan of overly perfumed cleaners), made easy work of tackling any greasy spots, and after rinsing there was
no sticky residue leftover.
