RIDE OF THEIR LIVES

-

Forget fundraising bake sales and sponsored walks, 12 people have decided to follow in the stirrups of Frankie Dettori and compete in a charity race this summer. The group of fundraisers, who include a care worker, housewife and TV presenter, will race at York Racecourse on 17 June to raise money for Macmillan Cancer Support. The challenge will also see them ride into the record books as they take part in the Best Western Hotels and Macmillan Ride of their Lives race, as it’s part of the oldest and biggest charity race day in the world. Stella Riley is one of the 12 due to compete. Macmillan is a charity close to her heart, having lost grandparents to cancer. She says: “I want to make my two young boys proud. I want them to see me not only take on the challenge to train to ride a racehorse, but also to raise lots of money for such an amazing charity.” The riders will all undergo intense training at the Northern Racing School in Doncaster and gain expert advice from former champion jockey Kevin Darley. Last year the Macmillan Charity Race day attracted nearly 27,000 race goers, which helped raise more than £480,000. Visit www.yorkracecourse.co.uk to book tickets for the charity race day.
