The Weald and Downland Living Museum is an open air museum in Singleton, West Sussex. Covering more than 50 acres, with almost 50 historic buildings, the team there aim to bring to life the homes, farmsteads and rural industries of the past 700 years. Horses are a huge part of our

rural history and this day-long course is sure to offer a fascinating insight into the skills of centuries past, whether you have a heavy horse at home or not. It’ll include a mix of theory and practice using the museum’s team of heavy horses. The day will have an introduction to stable care,

feeding, harness and safe handling of draft horses. The session will be led by Mark Buxton, who is the museum’s horseman (formerly head horseman at the Royal Parks for 14 years). He’s also the man who’s responsible for sowing, chain harrowing, ploughing and harvesting at Weald and Downland Living Museum. Lunch will be included on the day and you should wear sensible, warm and waterproof clothing, as well as suitable steel toe-cap footwear and gloves. The course runs from 10am until 3.30pm. www.wealddown.co.uk
