The whole process is repeated twice more that morning and once the third lot are back from their training, things at the yard tend to slow down around 12.30pm. The horses are rugged up and put into their stables until about 3pm, when the lads and lasses return from their break. “When I get back, I’ll pop my horse on the walker for an hour and get on with odd jobs,” explains Megan. “Then by the time it gets to about 5.30pm, I’m all done for the day.” There’s no rest for Paul though, as he prepares for the races at Wincanton that afternoon. Once the horse is ready for travelling (complete with front bandages, a tail bandage and a sheet), they’re ready to set off. “It never stops. I’ll be racing at the weekend, too,” smiles Paul. “I told you it was hectic!”
