Improve your horse’s rhythm, balance and bascule using a simple grid with just one jump. At the latest Centaur Biomechanics conference, Andrew Hoy demonstrated how

WHETHER YOU’RE KEEN to jump clear rounds every time or you’d like to hone your horse’s technique, this expert workout is exactly what you need. It’s a pole-work exercise and a simple grid, which needs very little equipment. Ride the exercises correctly and you’ll also find your horse’s canter rhythm and balance will improve – both very important for jumping clear rounds.

Before you start working through the exercises, you need to spend warm up in walk, trot and canter. Also, remember that your cool down is just as important, so remember to let your horse walk on a loose rein, allowing him to have a good stretch before you take him back to his stable.

As you work through each of the exercises it’s important to remember you won’t improve your horse’s technique if he’s tired. Give him regular breaks so he can stretch his muscles for a few minutes before asking him to work again.
