Appy hacking!

-

Since the launch of #Hack1000miles, we’ve received lots of questions about hacking apps – which ones are the best, where to get them and what other riders recommend. With that in mind, we’ve done a little investigating to bring you the top two, as recommended by #Hack1000milers already on the go.

Gallopica

The Gallopica app can be used to track your ride with the help of GPS technology. It’ll also create a map of your ride, to which you can add photos. Joanna Holland, one of our leading #Hack1000milers (she’s already broken the 400-mile barrier) told us that she likes the fact she can see where she is on the map as she hacks and that she can zoom in to the map to plan her next route. “I like that it shows on the map where you’ve had a trot or canter,” she says. “You can also take a photo and it’ll show on the map where you took the picture.” Joanna’s only criticism is that hacks are tracked in kilometres and not miles.

Trackener

This free app enables users to record every ride and even analyse how much you’ve exercised your horse in each gait (the team behind the app advise that gaits are measured by speed and, therefore, might not be 100% accurate). You’ve confirmed that it works well and some of you have even taken advantage of the latest update on the app to link up with Brooke’s My Hackathon campaign – to ride 100 miles in 100 days to raise money for the charity. We’re all for that! Why not use 100 of your 1,000 miles for this great cause, too?
