Examine his eyes
Unlike humans, a horse’s hearing isn’t affected by age, or not to the point that we’d notice anyway, as their hearing will always exceed ours. However, his vision can decrease as he ages. “Some horses lose their sight to some degree but, because of the depth of their vision, most will cope well,” says Claire. “If you’re noticing problems with your horse, such as tripping or fumbling, then that warrants an investigation.” Get your horse’s eyes checked and, if he does have any issues, try to keep his environment the same – don’t move things in his stable so he has a sense of where things are. Your horse will cope well if he knows where everything is.
