It’s spring — so let’s go!

We’re finally through winter and ready to jump into spring — excellent news for all #hack1000miles challengers, as the finish line draws ever closer

-

WHEN DOES SPRING begin? That was possibly the mostasked question as winter dragged on, but according to the Met Office, spring begins on 1 March — hooray! This is such good news for horse riders everywhere, but especially our #hack1000miles challengers. Sunshine, warmer temperatures, longer days — and when the clocks change at the end of March we’ll finally all be able to look forward to some glorious hacking in the evenings. Remember, every mile counts and even a quick ride around the block is worth it. Did you know that if you ride just three miles a day, you’ll pass the 1000 miles finish post in a year? But it doesn’t matter how long it takes you, the main goal is to enjoy the challenge and the opportunity to spend time hacking your horse and exploring the countryside.

Loving every step

Your Horse’s new editor, Aimi, is making steady progress with her thoroughbred after taking on the challenge last autumn. “Bee and I are around the 200-mile mark at the moment and loving every step,” she says. “We’ve recently moved to a new area, so it’s been a really good way to make us get out and explore our new surroundings. “I’m in a similar position to most other people, having to fit in riding around a full-time job, but since I started recording where we hack I’ve been surprised at how many miles we tend to cover in one ride — and mainly at the weekends. “We’ll top up our miles by doing some fun rides during the spring and summer, and I hope to get to the finish line by the end of the year.” We’re relaunching #hack1000miles in next month’s issue (on sale 5 April) so if you haven’t already, sign up now at hack1000miles.co.uk and become part of our growing team. If you’re already making steady progress towards the finish line, keep going — and don’t forget to keep us and your fellow challengers updated on your progress by joining our Facebook group, Hack 1000 miles. Aimi and Bee have already started sharing their journey with you all!
