Horse owners offering holidays

-

Moorside Glamping is a luxury campsite in the Lake District with accommodation for horses as well as humans. It opened last June and is already proving popular with equestrian holidaymakers.

“We’re blessed in the western Lake District to have good hacking on a mix of bridleways, tracks and quiet roads,” says Sarah Irving of Moorside, who has horses of her own. “I provide maps for many of the fabulous rides we have around the farm. The beach is only a 10-15 minute ride away along very quiet roads and we’re only a mile from the dramatic Corney Fell too.” Staying somewhere owned by horse riders certainly has its benefits. Sandra Grieve from Auld Skuil B&B in the Scottish Borders is local to the area so she has a depth of knowledge to call upon.

“As a family we own, ride and have travelled with horses for many years and want to share our passion with others,” smiles Sandra. “My family lives in the old schoolhouse and we’ve converted the adjoining classroom into a self-contained unit offering accommodation for up to four people. We have stabling, grazing and a small manège.

“There’s such a choice of things to do and see in the Scottish Borders, both on and off a horse. Some guests wish to travel miles and spend the day in the saddle, while others prefer to rider shorter distances. There are those who enjoy trotting along roads and tracks and others who head to the open hills for a gallop. “There’s nothing nicer than exploring new countryside on horseback at your own pace, or revisiting a favourite place in the company of friends.”
