An in-depth look at the new Stellar Head Collar
AHEADCOLLAR IS A practical piece of equipment that we use every day, whether that’s for leading, travelling, or wearing in the field. There are already a number of safety headcollars available — primarily for use during turnout — which are designed to release if your horse gets caught on something like a fence post. The team at Equilibrium Products wanted to take a closer look at headcollars and see if they could create one that’s safe for all of the different situations in which horse owners need to use a headcollar. The end result is the Stellar Head Collar.
Preventing injury
The Stellar has a specially designed headpiece with adjustable press stud fasteners and keepers on both sides of the headcollar. When needed, the headpiece releases, preventing injury to the soft tissue and nerves on your horse’s face, poll and neck. You have the option of adjusting the position of the keepers to alter the amount of force it takes for the headcollar to release. This patent-pending Safety Release System has been scientifically tested to give consistent results and provides you with a headcollar that allows you to handle your horse safely while also ensuring that he stays safe.
Thorough testing has been carried out in laboratory conditions, as well as in practical, everyday situations. In laboratory conditions, in position a, the headcollar consistently released when a force of between 50-60kg was exerted on it. For position b, it was between 80-90kg.
The Stellar Head Collar is made from a smart leather-look PVC, making it both durable and easy to keep clean. It also has neoprene padding on the headpiece and nosepiece for added comfort.
