Doing the donkey work
With most employees at the historic Talyllyn Railway in Snowdonia having been furloughed, vital rail maintenance has been taken on by two new staff — Hamish and Lady Maude. The equine recruits are busy carrying out vital horticultural management alongside the seven-mile track and at stations. Railway general manager Stuart Williams said: “Usually we have an army of volunteers who strim, flail and tend to the lineside to keep the vegetation under control. When we were approached about the possibility of two local donkeys moving in we were very pleased. They now have their own part of the railway to maintain and are doing a brilliant job.”
