to try online showing

WHILE COMPETING MAY be off the table for the foreseeable future, there are other ways to have fun with your horse without even leaving the stable. Online showing is a great activity to develop a bond with your horse, get that competition buzz, and potentially win some fancy rosettes to hang with pride in your tackroom. Whether via Facebook, Instagram or dedicated online showing websites, there are lots of different contests available, from novelty classes to more formal showing classes. Always make sure that you read the entry requirements carefully before getting out your grooming kit. Having a wide variety of classes means that there’s something for everyone, regardless of your horse’s breed, age or colouring. It’s perfect for people who have never competed before and want to gain a bit of experience, as well as for seasoned showing superstars who are unable to get out and about to events.

Simply upload

Depending on the class you choose, there may be set dates/times within which you must enter your photo. There may also be an entry cost, which covers the postage of prizes and rosettes. For most classes you simply have to upload a photo of your horse, although occasionally a short video may be required.

Judges will assess photographs for presentation, condition and turnout of the horse (and rider/handler if pictured). You don’t need to be a pro photographer to do well — classes are judged on the subject of the photo, not the image quality. However, it is an advantage if your photo is clear, sharp and taken from an angle that shows off your horse well. With online classes there’s no early morning departure, no need for a trailer or horsebox, and no onlookers — you can be confident at your own yard, just you, your horse and a camera. Bathing and grooming is also excellent bonding time — after all, who doesn’t appreciate a bit of pampering every now and then?

Online showing really is a win-win!
