A HANDS-ON PRACTICAL COURSE
IBERS also remains a provider of the well-established foundation degree (FdSc) equine studies. The FdSc is a vocational course in which hands-on practical work and riding are the keystone content of the course, and students can work towards BHS exams as part of their studies.
The FdSc is strategically designed so that successful completion at a merit or above enables progression to a one-year BSc equine studies top-up, meaning that students can potentially gain a degree level qualification after three years of study. Alternatively, gaining the FdSc at a merit or more can lead to the BSc equine science course through entry into year two.
The icing on the cake is that the university’s Lluest Equine Centre is a BHS Approved Training establishment, which means that students can ride while studying, work towards BHS exams up to Senior Coach in Complete Horsemanship level (Stage 4), and bring their own horse, regardless of which degree scheme they choose to study. The yard also hosts regular clinics, competitions and guest lecturers to enhance student learning.
