Night sounds

- By Janet Lines

The time? Just after one a.m. Oh no, for goodness sake! Shut up your awful snoring please, it’s keeping me awake. A gentle elbow in your ribs, I whisper, “keep it down” The noise keeps getting louder. I put on my dressing gown.

I have a wander round the house, you’ll stop the noise in time, I come back in five minutes, and thank goodness all seems fine. Though it is eerily quiet, so I listen... not one sound, I cannot hear you breathing, you’re a lifeless, silent mound!

I think I’ll give a little shake, to make sure you’re alright, I can’t believe I’m doing this, I haven’t slept all night. The shaking makes you fidget, ‘twas an error on my part, I’ve only gone and caused the flipping snoring to restart!

I want to kick you in the back, you’re driving me berserk, But soon it will be five a.m. and you’ll have to go to work. The bed is cold, it’s six a.m. and now I want to weep, It’s not the same without you here... it’s too quiet to sleep!
