Don’t give up

- Irene Tenny, Rochdale

It was a blow to me and my older neighbours when our local letter box (a small red box fixed to a telegraph pole) was stolen. I reported the theft and was told it would be replaced within 12 weeks and would be of a new design to deter thieves. Many weeks went by and many promises were broken. The local councillors and press got involved and I even wrote to Moya Greene, the Royal Mail Chief Executive. More promises – no action. One year later, feeling cross and frustrated, I poured my anger into another letter to Ms Greene – and also made her an ‘Unhappy Anniversary’ card to stress the point. It worked! Finally another small red box fixed to the same telegraph pole! What took so long?
