Dame Helen’s battle with self-esteem
Celebrated actress Dame Helen Mirren has revealed she has to overcome low self-esteem on an almost daily basis. While of course on-screen she’s confident and commanding, off-screen she has had a lifelong battle with self-esteem issues, she revealed recently. Dame Helen said it used to be so bad that she couldn’t even smile until her late 30s. “I couldn’t smile before the Eighties – I thought I looked stupid when I smiled,” she said.
