Get creative with three quick-and-easy ways to decorate with eggs
Don’t throw your eggshells away, turn them into a set of mini vases! Make a hole at the top to allow the egg contents to drain out. Rinse out the shell and place in the bottom half of an egg box. Using a funnel, pour a small amount of water into each shell. Finally add some pretty, freshly-cut spring flowers like tulips, hyacinths or freesias. Old eggshells make eye-catching biodegradeable seed pots. White duck eggs look best, get them from large supermarkets or farmer’s markets. Use a teaspoon to fill each shell with a pre-moistened seed starting mix. Place a couple of seeds in each ‘pot’ and leave in a sunny, southfacing window. Lightly spray the soil with water every couple of days. You’ll have hours of fun making these egg characters with the grandchildren. Place a blown egg (instructions on next page) in an egg cup and use red and black felt pens to draw on a face. Use patterned card to make little party hats, bow ties, rabbit ears and fascinators for your eggs to wear. An egg-cellent activity for an Easter egg hunt!
